Local talk is that the mountain swallowed Fort Hawkridge when Colt’s grandfather stole the mountain’s name for his family. Colt doesn’t believe it for a heartbeat, but the call of gold, glory, and adventure is enough to make him risk the mountain’s wrath to clear his grandfather’s name.
