The Withering

The Withering
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B010TYZNW6/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_wK8mAb7VQQ1XH

This book was very different from what I thought it would be. It is like a creepy ghost story. It is very interesting and I loved it. It starts out as Victoria, an educated British woman, boards an old steam ship to Europe. She is going to be a Nursing Officer and assist the surgeons.

Right away, she feels too intelligent for the people on the ship. She ends up insulting the people on the ship directly and indirectly. One woman puts Victoria in her place at dinner after growing tired of Victoria boasting all through dinner. All the men laugh and that embarrassed Victoria. She goes to sleep angry that night.

The next morning she woke on the floor as a large steam cargo ship crashed into theirs. She opened her cabin door to be greeted by smoke, fire and rising water. The ship is sinking. An explosion throws Victoria into the water. She manages to climb on a floating box and fall asleep.

The next morning she wakes up on an island. It has ancient ruins, statues, and a building. She finds a crazy lady on the beach she is terrified of and runs from. There is a cloaked women in the building but has no interest in harming Victoria.

This book is creepy and you must read it to find out what happens to Victoria. I love books by this Author which is why I said it was different than I thought. I buy his books knowing they will be a good read and they always are. I’ve read many of his books now and none are money wasted. I highly recommend this Author and his books.

Joy.ology: The Chemistry of Happiness

Joy.ology: The Chemistry of Happiness
https://www.amazon.com/dp/1973365340/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_IYfmAb6DSTJ7E

This book teaches about happiness, what actually makes you happy. There are 4 chemicals in your brain to thank for happiness: Dopamine, Serotonin, Endorphins, and Oxytocin.  I agree with this book in money doesn’t make you happy.

I have seen this where I work. Bottom employees aren’t happy about their rate of pay. Mid managers are too tired from working the extra hours. My store manager is always tired from working all the extra hours and listening to employee and customer complaints all day.

Happiness and unhappiness are chemically created in your brain. The 4 chemicals help make you happy. How you negatively react to a situation, stress releases too much cortisol chemical in your brain and can cause unhappiness.

I agree with the information in this book. It is well written and easy to follow and understand. I highly recommend this book to everyone to help increase the amount of happiness in their own life.

Maya is an Indian working woman who migrated to America fifteen years ago. She spends her days balancing a rewarding career with household chores, and lives with her husband Raj and her thirteen-year-old daughter Ruhani in Detroit.

As she nears her fortieth birthday, Maya starts re-evaluating the choices she had made—or hadn’t made—and wonders if she has fulfilled her purpose in life. The dust on her suppressed dreams may have settled long ago, but the quest to find them again stirs her future.

When her university reunion comes up, she has a chance to revisit her hometown, family, and old friends. In Mumbai, she meets her old college friend, Amit and gets a feeling of déjà vu. She recollects her childhood memory of Madhumita, a beautiful singer who had disappeared mysteriously. She finds herself drawn to Madhumita’s story, and in the process, she digs up secrets about herself, her close friends and even her family. She revokes all her past passions and touches upon the so-called life repressed memories, only to discover that there are more unfulfilled dreams in her life.

In this emotionally charged account of Maya’s self-journey, we find ourselves asking the same question she’s been asking,” If I get to choose my life again, will I do it differently?” Sometimes the answer your heart returns and that of your mind will bring to a crossroads in life, all roads may not be created equal but only you can find your purpose in this lifetime – and maybe if you are lucky, the next!

Diver Creed Station https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00LY58NWM/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_efDlAb3VEYSRP

This book takes place in the future when global war almost eliminated man kind. Millions of people died from weapons radiation, biological and chemical waste, and disease. This also caused sterility in a lot of what humans were left. Very few could actually have children. A breeding station was created to protect these people and children in effort to repopulate the earth. These people had as many children as they could in effort to save the human race.

Survival groups formed. Being in a group you were protected and more likely to survive than being alone. People did whatever they could do to survive. Of course their had to be a group of savages willing to kill people to survive. When the rest of the world was trying to repopulate it.

A virtual reality pod facility was discovered and offered people virtual reality life experiences. People could live in the pods for 7 days at a time to escape reality. Then they worked in the facility for 7 days. It was a really nice way to escape reality for a little while until someone took over the pod facility and people got trapped in the pods and in virtual reality.
